The Australian Extract
Through a variety of events and years of research, along with patented technology from Harvard University in Massachusetts, Xenomis has acquired the understanding of how red grapes produce defensive molecules in response to these severe environmental threats that occur in southern Australia. When under environmental stress from fungal attacks, water stress or excessive UV radiation, these red grapes produce the stress-induced molecules known as phytoalexins. The phytoalexins are the precursor to the many other polyphenols, including the red colored anthocyanins, known for their anti-oxidant capability. The grape concentrates these groups of polyphenols, which we refer to as Xeno Factors, in its red skin to act as the front line of defense.
Using a proprietary extraction process, the super-concentrated Xeno Factor is made from stressed red wine grape marc. The Xeno Factor, which contains essentially all the polyphenolics of the grape marc, contains a “red wine equivalent” that is 50 to 100 times more potent than a glass of red wine. The analysis of the Xeno Factor concentrate shows an extraordinary high concentration of natural polyphenols, including phytoalexins typically found in red grape skins and shown to have tremendous health benefits. The naturally concentrated blend of Xeno Factor polyphenols being delivered in a concentrated form may allow for increased absorption in the digestive tract and therefore greater beneficial action in the body. The levels of beneficial Xeno Factors concentrated by this process are hundreds of times more concentrated than those found in wine. Laboratory analysis has revealed that the Australian extract when given to animal yeast cells resulted in increase in longevity similar to what has been seen with the polyphenol, resveratrol. Xenomis believes that the unique blend of bioactive polyphenols such as resveratrol, piceid, viniferin, quercetin, fisetin and others in this natural concentrate have worked together to produce this result. A very recent study in 2007 has also confirmed an improvement in memory and endurance in humans using Xeno Factors made from the Australian Extract and other concentrated Xeno Factors. A recent study was done to assess the anti-oxidant capacity of the Xeno juice which included the Australian Extract. The anti-oxidant capacity (ORAC Value) of the Xeno juice was compared to grape juice and Cabernet Sauvignon found it to have nearly seven (7) times the ant-oxidant and free radical savaging capacity (ORAC value). The Extraction Process
The process to concentrate Xeno Factors and produce the Australian Extract is based on a separation and purification technology that can selectively separate out certain organic molecules from a liquid source and concentrate them. Using this proprietary "resin" extraction technology (photo above and below) Xenomis now has the means to produce large quantities of concentrated Xeno Factors for the stressed red wine grape skins grown in southern Australia.
